Ivan Gee believes Haroldeans are back on track following their emphatic 6-2 win over South Manchester Sports Club 2nd.

The Merseysiders were left reeling by Manchester Maccabi 3rd after suffering their first defeat of the season following the 2-1 reverse against the reigning champions.

But Gee’s men remain in pole position to win the league title with their latest victory coming despite the absence of several star names.

James Harris, Danny Berman, Cabral Christian and Josh Silverberg all missed the game at Hough End, but Gee was delighted with his side’s showing.

“We played some fabulous football and we were particularly good in the first-half,” he said.

“It was a very good performance, even without five or six regulars and it was just good to get back to winning ways.

“We’re still six points clear and we’ve got two games against Broughton and Crumpsall to come in the next two weeks, which we’ll be confident of winning.

“We know Oakhill are six points behind us, but if we can beat them in January, then hopefully the race will be over.”

Playing in horrendous conditions, both sets of players were troubled by the constant rain and hail which swept across Manchester on Sunday.

But it was the visitors who always looked the more confident with the impressive Adam Boyars leading the way.

Boyars, playing in the unfamiliar role as striker, netted twice, while Bradley Alis, Ali Goldsmith, Josh Roberts and Robert Karp were also on target.

Aaron Searle and Nic Ingram did manage to keep South in contention but Gee was just relieved to grab the points and head back to Liverpool.

“It was a horrible afternoon and the conditions were dreadful for both teams,” he added.

“The original pitch we were supposed to play on wasn’t playable, so we had to move to another which was ok.

“At one point the lads were holding their shirts over their heads as the hail was so powerful.

“But at least we got the game on and we won. We’re just pleased to have got it over and done with.”
