Hapoel Tel Aviv close to next stage of Europe League

articlemain

Hapoel Tel Aviv need a point from their last two games to qualify for the last 32 of the Europa League after claiming a stunning victory in Vienna on Thursday night.

The Israelis moved two points clear at the top of Group C following a 3-0 victory that saw them complete the double over the Austrians.

Avihay Yadin put Hapoel on the road to their third victory with a deflected strike 13 minutes into the game.

Gil Vermouth doubled the lead after 65 minutes. He then turned provider five minutes later, allowing Bebars Natcho to blast home Hapoel’s 12 goal of the group stage.

Hapoel boss Eli Gutman said: “Just like I said in Israel [a fortnight ago after our 5-1 win], if you would have told me we'd get a result like this, I would have accused you of being drunk.

Hapoel’s next match is against Celtic, who drew 0-0 in Hamburg, on December 2.
