Hapoel handed tough Champions League draw

articlemain

Hapoel Tel Aviv will face in Lyon, Benfica and Schalke in Champions League Group B following the draw in Monaco.

The Reds reached the group stages for the first time after completing a 4-3 aggregate victory over Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday.

Uefa have rejected Hapoel’s appeal to play home group matches at their Bloomfield Stadium and ordered them to stage games at Ramat Gan.

A statement on Hapoel’s Ultras fan site says that supporters will boycott the home games in protest.

Meanwhile, Hapoel have denied receiving any offers from Celtic for Itay Shechter following reports that they had tabled a £2.5m bid.

Any move appears unlikely as Shechter has only made six appearances for Israel and would not qualify for a UK work permit.
