Half time blast did the trick, says Davis

articlemain

Steve Davis praised his Westdene 1st side after they came back from the dead to claim a precious point against Oakhill Lions.

The Manchester students had raced into a two-goal lead thanks to efforts by Robert Selwyn and Dan Cohen.

The visitors hit back after the break through Saul Cohen and an Adam Herman wonder strike to salvage a draw.

Boss Davis is now hoping his side can build on their latest performance when they take on Republic of Mancunia on Sunday.

"We weren't good enough in the first half and Oakhill made a really fast start," he said.

"But I got stuck into them at half time and I'm delighted with the result in the end.

"We've been on a bad run recently so this was a very important result for us and will give us a boost ahead of next week's game against Republic."

Hyde Park Rovers boss Philip Braham reckons his men are on target for league title glory following their 2-1 win at Haroldeans.

Bobby Abrams was on target against his former club while David Cohen's solo strike gave the men from Leeds all three points.

"It was a tough game," said Braham. "We played well though and we've now won five out of five which is a great achievement. We're playing really well, we've sorted out our discipline and it's looking good.

"We really believe we can go all the way this year."

Manchester Maccabi 3rd sit just three points off the lead following their 5-3 win over Republic of Mancunia.

Josh Hayes grabbed a hat-trick for the visitors with Phil End and Adam Stevens also hitting the target. James Haffner, Darren Loofe and Mike Gastwirth scored for Republic who drop to fourth.

Jonny Tenzer scored twice as league leaders South Manchester Sports Club 2nd condemned basement boys Crumpsall to a seventh consecutive defeat.

Tenzer stole the show for Neil Collins' men with Si Mattison, Dave Stewart and Nick Ingram also on the scoresheet in a 5-0 romp.

Daniel Klapish (2) and Gabi Silver helped Westdene 2nd claim their first win of the season after overcoming Sporting JLGB 3-2. Rafi Bloom and Josh Taylor were on target for Sporting.
