Guttman calls for calm after Israel defeat

articlemain

Eli Guttman has some major decisions to make ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign after Israel were beaten 3-1 by Slovakia in a friendly.

Guttman opted for youth - with Yossi Benayoun not selected - but their fans in Netanya were left frustrated after a lacklustre performance.

Martin Jakubko put the visitors ahead eight minutes before the break and the lead was doubled by Jan Durica on 69 minutes.

Super-sub Maor Buzaglo capped an excellent cameo with the goal of the game 10 mintues from time, but sloppy defending allowed Robert Mak to settle the contest.

Guttman said: "There is plenty of work to do, but I’m the last person who is concerned about hard work.

"I'm not worried, but I am aware of the national team’s situation. I’m not burying my head in the sand. I never said it would be easy to qualify for Euro 2016. We will need to excel as individuals and as a team."
