Green named as Team Maccabi GB golf chair

articlemain

Ben Green has been named Chair for Team Maccabi GB Golf for the European Maccabi Games 2015 in Berlin.

Green has become synonymous with Jewish golf, having represented Great Britain from a young age at the JCC Maccabi Games in 1998 and 2001, where he won a bronze medal, all the way up to the Maccabiah Games.

In 2001 he was also runner-up in the Israel Open and has won both individual and team Glancy trophies on several occasions. His appearance in Berlin will be his second at a European Maccabi Games, having coached the Team Maccabi GB Junior Squad in 2011. On that occasion his team returned from Vienna with the silver medal and two individual gold and silver medals. His most prestigious position to date was as Interim-Manager of Team Maccabi GB’s Golf Squad of 21 players for the 19th Maccabiah Games in July 2013, where his golf team brought home three trophies.

"It was an honour to be hand-picked for the role," Green said. "Moreover, being involved with Jewish athletes from around the world, competing on an international stage, is an overwhelming experience.

"One of the reasons these tournaments are so incredible is the social and educational journey the athletes embark on.

"Maccabi GB Golf has enjoyed great success over the past few years and we are looking to continue and strengthen our dominance in Europe as the leading country for Jewish golf.

"We are seeking golfers of all ages who want to be part of this unique experience representing British Jewry in Berlin with pride and we encourage all interested athletes to apply now and look out for trial dates coming soon."

Green is recruiting golfers of all ages from Junior to Open and Masters in both the male and female categories. He will be backed by Ben Brownson, as Junior squad manager - a role he also possessed at the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel.
