Grant charged with improper conduct

articlemain

Avram Grant, the West Ham manager, has been charged with improper conduct by the FA following comments made after the FA Cup defeat at Stoke.

An angry Grant suggested that referee Mike Jones favoured Stoke because he felt "guilty" for missing Frederic Piquionne's apparent handball in claiming an equaliser for West Ham.

After the game, Grant said: "Until they scored the second goal he gave fouls, a penalty, everything for them."

Grant has until 4pm on March 21 to respond to the charge and if found guilty could be banned from the touchline.

The verdict came on the same day that Manchester manager Sir Alex Ferguson was banned for five matches and fined £30,000 for comments about referee Martin Atkinson.
