Gothelf: We can KO Morrison holders

articlemain

Zack Gothelf has set his sights on claiming the prize scalp of Peter Morrison Trophy holders Manchester Maccabi 1st after claiming: “We can do it.”

The Oakhill boss is confident his men can pull off a stunning shock and dump Maccabi 1st out in the opening round of the competition.

Lions will be up against it with Maccabi in fine form following last weekend’s 6-2 thrashing of Astley Arms in the Tameside League.

The likes of Jonny Quinn, Michael Sacks and Adam Green have all impressed in recent weeks and will give Oakhill plenty of food for thought.

Stuart Delmonte’s men, who defeated Faithfold in last season’s final, are one of the favourites to win the trophy once again this year.

But Gothelf says his side are determined to put on a show and are gunning for glory against their illustrious opponents.

“It’s going to be a huge game but we know what we’re up against,” he said.

“If we can get our strongest team out there then there’s no reason why we can’t shock them.

“We’ll put up a strong fight and we always raise our game against the better sides.

“We normally struggle against the lesser teams but that won’t be the case on this occasion.

“These are the games you look forward to playing in. We want to prove ourselves against the best and that’s what we’re going to do.”
