Golden wonders: GB kids in American gold rush

Great Britain's 'Golden Generation' swept all before them at the JCC Maccabi Games after an all-conquering performance in the United States.

The 36-strong squad won an incredible 99 medals including 47 golds following a hugely successful tournament in Denver.

The Track and Field team achieved a record haul of 24 golds as every member returned home with a medal.

Abbi Pinnick led the Swimming squad to success as each competitor managed a place on the podium after collecting 36 medals between them.

There was further success on the pitch where a British football team finally managed to shine on the world stage with a thrilling 4-1 win over Los Angeles in the final.

More gold medals followed in golf and tennis with delegation leader Brian Green claiming the squad had surpassed all expectations.

"To get 47 gold medals is a tremendous achievement," said Green.

"I don't like to single people out, but 34 out of 36 of our competitors came home with medals which really is fantastic.

"They did ever so well and that's without us even entering a team in five of the events.

"We've averaged around three medals per child and that really is something special."

Elstree's Danni Newman was one of the stars of the Games after winning a sensational six gold medals as well as a silver and bronze.

The 14-year-old runner, who is a hot tip for the Maccabiah Games in three years time, held her nerve to win six different running events ranging from the 200m to the 3,000m.

Elsewhere, Simon Zeffertt picked up eight medals in Track and Field with Naomi Ayrton claiming nine in the swimming pool.
