Golden boys see off Germany

Two goals from Michael Kenley earned GB gold in the Junior Football competition as they beat Germany 2-0.

Joel Nathan's men ran out deserved winners with Kenley also winning the golden boot on eight goals.

The London Lions marksman grabbed a goal in each half as Joel Nathan's men finished the competition with a 100 per cent record.

Matchwinner Kenley said: "It feels amazing to be champions of Europe.

"The boys played really well and we have a great team spirit.

"Germany played well but we were always the better team."

GB manager Nathan said: "I said before the tournament that I felt we were going to be the strongest of the European teams.

"Once Scott Shulton became involved in the set-up, he drilled a professional attitude into the boys. All 18 players listened to him and did exactly what was asked.

"Every single one of the boys has put it in during the tournament. They were all relishing the trip so this is reward for them, not me as I've done it before.

"I hope that we can all stick together for Israel in 2013. It's a great feeling."

Nathan felt that GB were rarely tested. "It's a shame that France and Holland were not here," he said.

"But take nothing away from my boys. We take our approach from the Open team whose professional attitude filters down to us.

"I believe GB have got strong as a result of the coaching set-up. These boys want to play at the next level and if we want to win these kind of competitions and Maccabiah then that's what we have to do.

"All these boys want to go to Israel for the next Maccabiah and I want to take them."

Levi Levenfiche, who set up one of the goals for Kenley, believes the EMG could be the springboard for continued success.

"The standard of football was very high here. It was great for so many Jewish people to come to Austria.

"I can't wait for 2013 now. Joel and Scott Shulton have worked so hard. We've had our ups and down but they have put so much time and effort in.

"Scott gives us an added inspiration, drive and vision."
