Gold raids Lions for dynamic duo

articlemain

Michael Sacks and Ricky Engleman have joined the Tony Gold revolution at Takeley FC after joining from London Lions.

Under Gold, both players helped Lions win the Spartan South Midlands League Division One title last season and the manager is confident they will improve his team in the Essex Senior League.

Sacks and Engleman featured in the goalless draw against Greenhouse London — Gold’s first match in charge — Takeley’s first clean sheet in eight matches.

Speaking about his new signings, Gold said: "I've known Michael for many years. He’s very experienced and has played at a high level. He’s the mature sort of personality you want around the dressing room.

"Ricky is also a good guy and, like Michael, a good character who never gives me any aggravation."

Gold said it was good to be back in the dugout after a three-month sabbatical. "I felt we did enough to win the game and it was pleasing to see five players aged under 19 in the squad.

"With a bit more luck and composure in front of goal we would have got the win our performance deserved. Both new signings did well. Now it’s all about building for next season. and there is still work to be done."
