Camila Giorgi's excellent run at the US Open ended at the fourth round stage as she was comfortably beaten by compatriot and 10th seed Roberta Vinci at Flushing Meadows.
Having beaten former no. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in round three, the Italian was swept aside 6-2, 6-4 in 67 minutes by Vinci who will meet Flavia Pennetta in the quarter-finals.
A total of 35 unforced errors led to Giorgi's downfall, but she can reflect on an encouraing performance following a two-month injury lay-off.
Giorgi said: "It wasn't my day, I didn't play well. It was a great week coming back from two months without playing and I performed to a really good level.
