Furman's off to a flyer

articlemain

Dean Furman will hope to keep his place in the South Africa team for Sunday’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations clash against Morocco after his latest all-action performance.

The 24-year-old played a starring role on his competitive international debut as his side claimed a 2-0 win over Angola in Durban.

Oldham skipper Furman was overlooked for the host nation’s opener against Cape Verde which finished goalless.

But the midfielder repaid the faith shown in him by manager Gordon Igesund by producing an impressive 90 minute showing for Bafana Bafana during the 2-0 in over Angola.

Furman, who only made his international debut back in October against Brazil, came within a whisker of scoring his first goal for his country when his low effort was tipped around the post.

Playing in front of the back four, Furman was typically tenacious, flying into tackles at every opportunity and dominating the midfield battle.

Siyabonga Sangweni and Lehlohonolo Majoro scored the goals for the home side, which is hoping to win the tournament for the first time since 1996.
