Doncasters Rovers manager Brian Flynn says he is delighted after signing Dean Furman on loan until the end of the season.

The Oldham Athletic midfielder was one of the stars at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in a tournament where he made his competitive debut for South Africa.

Flynn said: "He's the right quality and the right type of player for us.

"He ticks every single box we were looking for, so we are delighted that he is here - he's been on our radar for a while now.

"I first saw Dean in 2006 when he was a young player for Chelsea, so he's been in my player list for a long time to be fair.

"He went to Rangers from Chelsea ; I have good contacts there too, so I kept an eye on him whilst he was there.

"I'm delighted I have finally got one of the men I wanted; it's given everybody a bit of a lift too, which is good. He's trained really well and he's shown the qualities on the training ground this morning.

Furman, has made 131 appearances for the Latics since joining Simon Corney's club from Rangers four years ago. He will be out of contract at Boundary Park at the end of the season.

Flynn said: "Dean is very much in our minds for next season; it is in our thoughts to extend the deal. If he comes in and does well, as we expect him to, then we would be looking to further the deal.

"He's a full current international; unfortunately for us he's going away next week to play for South Africa.

"We knew that would happen; when you bring international footballers they will be away at some stage of the season."

Furman hopes to make his Doncaster debut against Portsmouth tomorrow.
