Brady Maccabi booked a trip to Redbridge Jewish Care A in the quarter-finals of the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup after maintaining their domination over Division One rivals Camden Park with a 4-0 victory.
Manager, Josh Rosenfeld rested some of the big guns, as a cup game was a welcome distraction from the league. He also welcomed back season long absentee Oli Kenner to the squad, however after wheezing after 15 minutes of running the line it seems he may still be a few weeks away from fitness.
Without the likes of Nick Berman, Mark Smith, Ben Gurshuny and, with the in-form Steve Field on the bench, Brady thought they had the perfect start when a delightfully delivered free kick from Lee Platt was glanced home by Nick Stern, only for the ref to bizarrely rule it out as the wall was not 10 yards. However, asecond free kick did lead to a goal as the ball was cleared only for Robert Kleinman to meet the clearance on the half volley, and the ball sail into the bottom corner.
The pitch began to cut up quite badly and only some heroics in the Camden goal kept the score down, with the visitors really struggling to get a foot hold on the game.
Brady looked as though they could bag a few more. A piece of pure class from Josh Hershman doubled the lead, as surrounded by three defenders he made space for himself on the edge of the box, rifling the ball into the bottom corner out of nowhere. He did have the chance to increase his tally but the Camden keeper made a fine point-blank save.
The second half started much the same with Brady on the ascendancy yet the poor pitch continued to act in Camden’s favour as Brady’s pace and passing ability was nullified. Field was brought on to close out the tie, and with in only five minutes of coming on he drew a fantastic save from the Camden keeper when the ball looked to be rifling into the top corner.
A further five minutes went by and this time Field did hit the back of the net, after waltzing through three defenders, and spinning between the centre halves, curled the ball into the back of the net.
There was time for Brady to make it four when Darren Stern broker through the Camden defence, and rounded the keeper.
A good result fro Brady, however a tough away draw at Redbridge A awaits them in the next round.
