Stuart Delmonte believes AFC Flixton are ready to test themselves against the MGBSFL's finest after moving to within touching distance of Division One promotion in the MACL.

Rafi Leeker was the hat-trick hero as Flixton put Chorlton to the sword in a 5-1 demolition, with Rob Jacobs adding the other two.

The crushing win means Flixton now hold an eight-point buffer at the summit as they close in on the top-tier.

It would take a dramatic collapse for AFC Flixton to miss out on the title, let alone a top-two finish.

But Delmonte is refusing to look too far ahead and said: "It was a great day as we managed to beat a promotion rival and boost our goal difference in the process.

"We are almost there. But we don't want to count our chickens as some of the teams at the top have games in hand over us.

"All we can do is win our games and we once again did our job here. We fell a goal behind early on but changed things midway through the first-half and it obviously worked.

"Once we took the lead before half-time we never looked like surrendering our winning position.
"With the strong wind behind us we really pegged them back and then managed to take full advantage thanks to Rafi and Rob who were deadly in front of goal."

AFC Flixton take a short break from league action when they host London-based side Hendon United Sports Club A in the Peter Morrison Trophy third-round at Valley Road on Sunday.

Delmonte said: "It gives us a bit of a breather from league action, but it’s a cup game we really want to win.

"Hendon are a good side and will start as favourites. But we are playing really well at the moment and will fancy giving them a real game."
