Five-star FC Team maintain title hopes

FC Team boosted their Middlesex County League Division One title hopes with a 5-0 demolition of FC Romania at Salisbury Hall.

Delayed by heavy traffic on the North Circular, Team manager Mitch Young was worried his team would be flustered after only arriving five minutes before kick off but this was never in danger of happening.

Team looked in total control from the off and they should have taken the lead on their first attack. Good work from Neil Weyman down the left allowed striker Eddie Obinna to power through only unselfishly leaving it to his strike partner Richard Salmon who one-on-one with the keeper blasted wide.

It was not long before team took the lead great work from Jack Mosse, making his debut for the team at left back, picked out Salmon who burst down the line and cut inside before laying it across to Irvine Howson to hammer home the opener.

Weyman’s long-throws were causing all sorts of problems for the opposition and captain Paul Kent should have doubled the lead from one volleying wide from five yards.

Team doubled the lead on the 30 minute mark when another throw from Weyman was headed clear by a Romanian defender to the edge of the box where Andy Croll was waiting and on the volley he hammered the ball into the bottom corner.

Team went into half time 2-0 up and with Laurence Judah bossing the midfield and James Korn winning everything in the air team looked very comfortable.

The second half started brighly with Josh Morris at full back bombing on every occasion. It soon became 3-0 when Salmon turned on the half volley and found the bottom corner and then shortly Obinna made it four from another Weyman throw.

Team keeper Paul Mendelsohn was having a very quiet day and as the game was nearing the end, Team added a fifth. A free kick on the edge of the box was being lined up by Croll. With everyone thinking he was going to shoot he found Obinna unmarked on the right hand side Obinna cut in and laid it off to Howson who hammered home his second.

With minutes to go Obinna burst throw and one-on-one with the defender he outrageously flicked the ball with his heels over the defenders head ran on but the keeper did well and the final whistle blew.

FC Team manager Mitch Young said: “This is a perfect result and a professional performance from the team. We were very clinical and once again our strikers were outstanding.

“I am also pleased with our second clean sheet and now we look to next week where we face unbeaten St. Lawrence who are joint-top with us at this early stage of the season it could be a crucial game and we are going to make sure we are well prepared. We want to keep winning for us long as possible and I have full belief in the quality of the squad."

FC Team: Paul Mendelsohn, Josh Morris, James Korn, Paul Kent, Jack Mosse, Laurence Judah, Andy Croll, Neil Weyman, Irvine Howson, Richard Salmon, Eddie Obinna
