FC Team make it nine unbeaten

FC Team took their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine games with a solid Middlesex County League Division One win over Arsenal Deaf at the Walkers Ground in Southgate.

Coming off the back of a 2-2 draw with Wilberforce last week, Team were itching for another three points and the afternoon could not have got off to a better start after five minutes Kieran Allen Curry took a brilliant free kick from the left hand side of the box that was met with a firm header by midfielder Jon Breger to head home past the keeper.

It was 2-0 10 minutes later. Another free kick from Allen Curry was met by Richard Salmon who headed towards goal. The keeper fumbled and there was centre back James Korn, making his return to the team from injury, to smash the ball home.

The game should have been over after the 20 minute mark as a great forward run from Breger saw him beat two men before being hacked down in the box. Allen Curry took the resultant penalty but the Arsenal keeper got down well and turned the ball behind the post.

Then star striker Irvine Howson missed an open goal after great work down the right from Adam Rones.

Team were to rue their missed chances to kill the game off after a quick free kick from Arsenal saw their full back float in a cross to the back post and with some confusion between goalkeeper Mendelsohn and Dan Silverman saw him head home unchallenged from five yards.

Arsenal levelled 10 minutes later when a long throw into the box seemed to miss everyone an the ball bounced up to hit Allen Curry’s arm, the referee gave a penalty which they duly converted.

Arsenal then had a player sent off for an elbow on Richard Salmon. Team were to be awarded a second penalty this time Irvine Howson stood up and placed the ball in the bottom corner to make it 3-2 at half time.

The second half team totally dominated created 10 clear cut chances overall. Salmon headed over from successive corners, Allen Curry blasting wide and Howson hitting the bar and the post. The ball just did not seem to go in and Team were wondering if it was going to be one of those days. However they finished the game strongly as Arsenal lost their discipline finishing the game having nine players yellow carded and one sent off.

None the less, Team continued their excellent season with another win and nine games unbeaten as they look for promotion to the Premier League and towards their London Cup final.

Team manager Mitch Young said: “It was a good performance, all be it we made it more difficult than what it should be. I have never seen us miss so many chances but at least we got the three points and that is what counts.

“We played some nice attacking football and created a hatful of chances. We must keep our winning mentality going as we have some really important games coming up. Overall I am pleased and there is still room for improvement.

“It has been a great weekend for FC Team with our first team winning, our A side beating Premiership opposition again and our B side getting an important win.”
