FC Team maintain promotion push

articlemain

FC Team took their unbeaten run to 10 matches after thumping Regents Park 4-0 in Division One of the Middlesex County League.

Manager Mitch Young opted to change formation, reverting to 4-4-2. Straight from the kick off the wide players were causing damage, setting up Richard Salmon for two golden opportunities however the big man saw both efforts saved by the Regents keeper.

Salmon was the provider as great work in midfield from Rones and Breger saw Breger play the ball into Salmon whose first time pass released Irvine Howson, one on one with the keeper Howson duly converted for his 15th of the season.

Team battled on and looked comfortably the defence rarely being troubled by the Regents park strikers.

Team doubled their lead on the stroke of half time this time great work on the left hand side from Tom Savage saw him square the ball to Breger who from 25 yards out coolly placed the ball in the bottom corner.

Regents Park finally threatened as their striker broke through one on one with Perkin however a last-ditch challenge from captain Paul Kent saved the day. The tackle saw Kent coming off injured and being replaced by returnee Gideon Moss.

Regents came more into the game in the second half but failed to muster any real chances.

Team’s third was a real peach. Rones played it up to Salmon who beat his man before beating him again cutting inside and on his left foot smashed the ball into the roof off the net, in off the cross bar.

The points where sealed 10 minutes later when a corner from Savage was met with a bullet header by Howson at the near post.

Young said: “This was a very professional performance from my team. The clean sheet is pleasing and once again we have shown we can create a hatful of chances.

“We have six league games left and we must win them to finish in the top two. It will be difficult but I believe in the players. We are playing well and next week’s double-header against top of the table Springfield will be make or break. Overall, a good day at the office "
