FC Team draw with FC Baresi

FC Team gained a hard-earned draw in their Middlesex County League Division One match against FC Baresi.

Richard Sternberg, playing right back, played a ball down the line to striker Irvine Howson, who skipped past two defenders, ran down the line and crossed to the on-rushing Adam Rone, who slid home his first of the season.

Richard Salmon had a seemingly good goal ruled offside. That proved crucial as an FC Baresi equaliser shortly before half-time brought them level.

FC Team were denied two possible penalties in the second half and should have won the match near the end when striker Irvine Howson missed an open goal from a wide angle after taking the ball round the goalkeeper.

Manager Mitch Young said: “We were unlucky not to win. We continue to show we can compete with teams at this level.”

In the Maccabi Masters Division One, leaders Glenthorne United A continued their unbeaten start, with a resounding 5-1 win over last year’s champions, Brady A, thanks to goals from Sid Shaw (2), Greg Morris, Jason Levy and Adam Hart. Joel Nathan grabbing a consolation for Brady.

South Mancunians recorded their first win of the campaign with a 3-2 victory over Faithfold, courtesy of goals from Mark Powell (2) and James Temple. Faithfold’s Joel Nathan responded with a brace.

North London Raiders notched up a 5-2 defeat of Lions A, with goals from Richard Sacks, Ashley Davidson, Kevin Lotzof (2) and Jonny Dubiner. Lions’ Max Radford, scored a brace including one direct from the centre spot.

In Division Two, last year’s champions Clayhall finally found their form with a 5-1 win over Ashlodge, having gone behind to an own goal. They secured the points thanks to goals from Mark Goldman, Neale Diamond, Michael Kushner (2) and Ian Sumray.

Norstar emerged victorious after a 3-2 win over Brady B. Steve Feiger opened his Norstar account to give them a half-time lead, and Lee Cohen extended the advantage. Brady were given a lifeline with an own goal, but soon fell further behind to another Lee Cohen strike.

And they held on for a win despite conceding a late penalty from which Malcolm Hershman scored Brady’s second.

In the first round of the Feldman Trophy, South Manchester Maccabi 2nd thrashed Westdene 2nd 5-1 thanks to two goals a-piece by Simon Mattison and Michael Basger. Gary Freeman also scored. Adam Berman netted the lone reply for Westdene.

Westdene 1st defeated Crumpsall 1st 5-0, thanks to goals by Daniel Amran, Moishe Hasid, Adam Leker, Dan Zedge and a Crumpsall own-goal.

In the MJSL Joan Collins Premier Division a Josh Rubin hat-trick helped Haroldeans to a 3-0 win over Leeds JNF J- Uni.

Broughton Park defeated Republic of Mancunia 3-1 with goals by Mike Gastwirth, Shiran Kraemer and Zacky Pheffer. Ben Blackston got the consolation.

A thrilling 4-4 draw between Sporting JLGB and Oakhill Lions was the match of the weekend.

A Ross Smith hat-trick and own goal was matched by strikes from Pini Berger, Sam Graham, Jake Gilbert and Sam Brentwood.

London Lions strolled comfortably into the next stage of the Anagrams Records Trophy with a 3-0 win over Evergreen. Lions, who have also made a blistering start to their Herts County Senior League campaign, saw goals from Andy Myers, Adam Stolerman and Rob Glass.
