articlemain

England FC were crowned Olim League Champions for the second time in three years last night.

Yoni Sidi's troops travelled to Modiin knowing a win would secure the trophy.

England flew out of the blocks and created several chances, with the lively Adam Jaffe causing problems for the Modiin back four only to find the Modiin keeper Iliyah Cohen in top form. The stopper was having the game of his life, making save after save.

The pressure finally told, however, as Chad Waldman who taped in from close range.

With their tails up, England continued to attack and Jaffe deservedly got his goal and then was provider for Roy Bihi to make it 3-0 at the break.

Modiin came out fighting in the second half, trying to play the role of party-pooper and the ever lively Beni Sagrovich was brought down in the box to give David Zackon the chance to score from the spot which he did.

As the rain started to fall, England failed to convert numerous opportunities with Cohen continuing his fine form of the first half, keeping out Motti Colman and Jaffe on several occasions.

England were made to sweat when Beni Sagrovich made a great run and slipped in behind the defence to make the score 3-2 with 15 minutes to go.

England continued to press and man of the match Jaffe put the game to bed with a neat finish and started the celebrations.

After the final whistle the champagne started flowing as England were crowned champions.

Player-manager Yoni Sidi said: "The league is getting stronger each year and it is a great achievement from the lads to win it.

"We have all worked very hard throughout the year and played some great football along the way. We can't switch off just yet as we are still involved in two more cup competitions that we really want to win, so I hope after that we can all enjoy a good night out in Tel Aviv.

"It's a great feeling to have the trophy back in our cabinet and its great for the league that the standard keeps rising so well done to all the teams and especially all the managers."

Club captain Tal Stern said: I'm so proud to be a part of this team, a team full of captains. The team spirit this season has been immense and has shown in the brand and quality of football we have played this season.

"Winning the league this season is especially rewarding given the high standards set by our opposition, and it is a credit to this League that we were made to work until the very last minute of the season to be named as Champions.

"Our eyes are now firmly on the Treble, and anyone who thinks that our focus has been distorted by our League win can think again, we are in it to win it.

Modiin co-manager Jamie Lazarus said: "Congratulations to England FC on winning the title. I am extremely proud of my boys for putting in a great performance tonight and for their commitment throughout the season. We will look to build for next year and comeback stronger and more determined to challenge for trophies."
