Encouraging signs from Barnett and Bongart

articlemain

Anna Barnett and James Bongart, the two winners of the 2012 Daniel Sacks Awards for Young Athletes, have opened their seasons with significant personal bests in their principal events.

Barnett, 13, threw 25.50m in the discus at Crystal Palace and 28.71m in the hammer at the Kent Young Athletes meeting in Bromley.

Both performances were competition victories, and they took Barnett to 10th and 15th respectively on the UK under-15 lists.

Although still only 16, Bongart has now entered the under-20 age group, using the senior 800g javelin. He placed third at the Lee Valley Open, with his throw of 48.22m lifting him to 10th in the UK under-17 rankings.

Greg Davis has climbed to 11th on the UK V60 400m list after a recording 72.64 at the Mile End Open.
