Four goals from summer signing CRAIG EDWARDS saw Fortune won a remarkable nine-goal thriller against last season's Division Two champions in Clitterhouse Playing Fields.

Lee Fegan's men did it the hard way though after losing Kane Gilbery to a red card to finish with 10 men.

With stand-in goalkeeper Lee Fegan playing superbly well, a new look Fortune side – with five league debutants – had to overcome another bad start (a recurring theme prevalent in the pre-seasons).

Two-nil down inside 20 minutes, Fortune dug deep to reach parity yet went into half-time 3-2 down thanks to a third goal by the home team just before the interval.

But the second half was a different story and Fortune scored three times to take an un likely 5-3 lead.

Hendon scored a fourth but Fortune held on for a memorable win, despite losing the temperamental Kane Gilbery to a second yellow card.

Edwards scored four tremendous goals, one a thumping free-kick of which David Beckham would have been proud, whilst midfielder Craig Cole added another

Fortune boss Lee Fegan said: "We played the Division Two champions with five new players, no keeper and no subs ... and we were 0-2 down! So to pull off a result like that was a fantastic achievement. I am delighted with how the team played and it was a superb result.

"Craig Edwards was outstanding as were Matt Leader and Stuart Haring but generally it was a great team performance on a difficult pitch."

RA Noe, Yishai Last, James Josephs and joint-player-manager Chaim Gothold registered for Hendon.

Hendon joint-manager Motty Korman told JC Sport: "It was a disappointing start to season. The Fortune keeper was excellent and made a few quality saves. Onwards and upwards next week."
