articlemain

Ellie Edwards moved a step closer towards qualification for the National Schools finals with an excellent performance in her first competition of the season.

Edwards, 14, won two medals at the Northern Open Young Athletes League match. She won the 100 metres in 13.15 seconds. Only one runner finished quicker in the other four heats meaning that Edwards took silver.

Competing at Longford Park, which is now her home track after she joined Trafford Athletics Club from Sale, Edwards needed to finish in the top two of the County of Greater Manchester in the 200 metres and hit a qualifying time of 26.4 seconds. She smashed her previous PB of 27.4 seconds with a time of 26.67 seconds. Edwards won the race and took gold as the fastest finisher overall.

Her coach, Tom Cullen, is confident Ellie is on track to make the National Schools finals in July which will put her amongst the fastest girls in the country.
