de Toledo steers Team GB into Olympic final

articlemain

Zoe de Toledo led Team GB to victory in their heat of the Women’s 8 rowing at the Rio Olympics in Rio. The win takes them straight to the final, which takes place on Saturday.

GB trailed early on but they crossed the line in 6:09:52 after seeing off the challenge of New Zealand and Canada.

Toledo, who is 5ft tall and weighs under eight stone – has risen to fame since coxing the Oxford crew at the 2012 Boat Race.

"You can't underestimate the dedication and the sacrifice that goes into this kind of performance," said de Toledo. "That's what the Olympics are about."

Toledo is 28 and will return to Oxford later this year to study medicine.
