De Ridder’s move to Hapoel on hold

articlemain

Talks have stalled over a move that could see Wigan Athletic midfielder Daniel de Ridder join Hapoel Tel Aviv.

The 25-year-old right-sided midfielder has yet to play for Wigan this season and appears to be out of favour at the DW Stadium under manager Roberto Martinez.

He joined the Latics under former boss Steve Bruce in July 2008 and has made 18 appearances but has failed to feature under Martinez who replaced Bruce last summer.

Hapoel chairman Amir Lublin said: “We are negotiating with Wigan and there is still a chance De Ridder will come to Hapoel. But the talks are difficult. The problem is not the player but the club. We want a loan deal. The player is not playing and we would help them by saving them having to pay his salary.”

The former Ajax midfielder, who holds an Israeli passport, is contracted to Wigan until the end of the 2010/2011 campaign.
