Daniels backs Lions to roar

Josh Daniels is backing his Oakhill Lions to roar past MJSL champions Manchester Maccabi 3rd on Sunday.

Daniels, who manages Lions alongside Zack Gothelf, will be in sole command this weekend with his fellow coach attending a wedding in Israel.

The Manchester University side have been in fine form in recent weeks and Daniels is hoping for more of the same against Maccabi’s youngsters.

“It’s going to be a tough game but we’re playing well and are unbeaten in five league matches,” he said.

“We’ve got a few players out with suspension and holidays but we’ve got more than enough to put a decent team out.

“Maccabi are a good side but perhaps they won’t be able to cope with us physically because a lot of them are five years younger than us.

“We’re not a physical side as we like to play football and make it a bit of a spectacle but perhaps our extra strength will help.”

Oakhill will be without joint top scorer Marc Maynard for the trip to Brooklands with the striker serving a suspension.

But Daniels is adamant his team has enough goals in it as they look to shock the reigning champions in their own back yard.

“It’s a blow not to have Marc available but we’ve got players in the team who can score goals," he added.

“The thing about our team is that we can score in every position and that’s been a feature of our season so far.

“It’s going to be a tough match but if we play well then we have a chance.”
