Israel Cycling Academy rider impresses at London-Surrey Classic

Zak Dempster of the Israel Cycling Academy sprinted into seventh place with Krists Neilands just behind, in the large bunch of 52 riders at the finish on the Mall in Central London.

    The leading group were all credited with the same time of 4:05:41 for the 183km Prudential London-Surrey Classic.

    From the start in The Mall, the route left London for the Surrey Hills before returning to finish on The Mall. The race had split into several groupings with ICA rider Ben Perry 76th in 4:14:45. Guy Sagiv and Jason Lowndes completed the Team’s finishers and with Israeli champion Roy Goldstein among the 31 non-finishers.

    The women’s event, held on the previous day in atrocious conditions, resulted in a tight bunch race throughout. From the start to the finish, the circuit on fully closed roads, skirted Buckingham Palace, Birdcage Walk, The Strand, Parliament Square, Whitehall and Trafalgar Square.

    The intermediate sprints resulted in an overall fast race in which Israel’s Rotem Gafinovitz of Team WM3 Pro Women, placed in the bunch finish in 1:29:10,  seven seconds down in supporting her team-mate Marianne Vos.

    Israeli star Mountain Biker, Noga Korem (Giant Israel) continued to shine in the Enduro World Series event in Aspen, USA., where she was placed seventh at the international event.

    Junior mountain biker Tomer Salzman is showing great potential with his ride into fifth place in the European Championship Cross Country Olympic event in Darfo Boario,Terme, Italy, in 1:01:13 and thus gaining 20 UCI points.
