Cup of joy for ice-cool Mancs

articlemain

A James Temple double steered South Mancs into the second round of the Henry Swerner MMFL Cup following a 4-0 success over Marshside at the Hive.

In the only Masters match that survived the weather, Division Two new boys Marshside contained Mancs for the majority of the first half and they missed the chance to forge ahead when David Hyman was put through one-on-one with the goalkeeper only to place his shot wide.

With Lenny Wyse commanding in goal for Marshside, it did not look like Mancs would break the deadlock, until they won a free kick on the edge of the Marshside box just before the interval. From the resulting free kick, Richard Reggel guided his header into the corner.

South Mancs doubled their lead with a Temple penalty after the break, and they went further ahead when Ben Kent finished off a fine passing move with a first time shot from outside of the box. Temple added a fourth to seal the win.
