Cullum clinches JLGB's second league win

articlemain

JLGB secured the second win of the seasson after a hard fought game at Edgwarebury Park.

The pitch was barley playable, but JLGB showed the greater desire to take the points.

A handball gave JLGB an early penalty which Paul Black dispatched with aplomb.

Life got back into the game with a good finish, but JLGB were soon back in front after a James Wright flick caused havoc in the Life box from a Matt Rhodes throw. Lifes defenders could not deal with it and it was headed into their own net.

Half time came and JLGB were deservedly in front.

JLGB switched off at the beginning of the second half and Life were back into it soon after the break with almost a carbon copy of their first goal.

JLGB upped a gear and were in control of the game but finding chances hard to come by.

Joe Cullum was put clean through and the most blatant shirt pulling you've ever seen was 'missed' by the referee. An almost certain goal and probably red card for a professional foul by the Life player were avoided.

Stephen Howard came on for his first appearance of the season and made a big difference down the left with the ever committed Mike Marks moving into central midfield. It was Howard's ball in that the Life keeper could not deal with and Cullum was left with a tap in. JLGB felt that it was no more than they deserved after the previous incident.

JLGB then had to dig in to soak up pressure from Life, and they did it really well. Chances were restricted from Life with superb performances from Paul Black, Matt Rhodes and Lee Stone.

JLGB held on for the vital three points. Could safety be back on the cards?

Real's scorers were Charlie Bernstein and Wayne Davidson.

Rob Silverman, the JLGB manager, told JC Sport: "I was really pleased with the boys today, obviously I am delighted with the points, but the performance was fantastic from all players ona terrible pitch. 100% commitment was shown and it paid off.

"Special mention to Lee Stone, Paul Black and Nicky Stone for incredible endeavour, but my man of the match and nomination for team of the week is Matt Rhodes who was immense today at left-back."
