Coulton reflects on the win the Thornes made hard work of

Glenthorne United B player-manager Elliot Coulton gives his account of Sunday's match against Athletic Bilbaum.

Today's game against Bilbaum had a potential banana skin written on it as we know the pitch in posh, old Hampstead isn't great and Bilbaum always give 100 per cent, so nothing more than total concentration and high work rate was needed from the boys.

However as the game kicked off the team didn't want to come out of first gear this continued throughout most of the game. Our build-up play was good and we passed the ball around well enough on a bobbly pitch, but in the final third it must be said our strikers Fabio Revieccio and Dan Lassman had a right mare.

Lack of running and movement when playing the game of "who can be the most selfish and shoot at every opportunity" was very frustrating. We had so many chances I lost count after 20 minutes but we couldn't convert to save our lives. We hit the woodwork numerous times and Lassman must of blasted the ball over the bar a dozen times in the game.

In the second half we knew the goals would come if we could just break the deadlock. After five minutes James Law finally got us off the mark quickly followed by Lassman for two and Fabio for 3-0.

Endless chances went begging like the first half. Jamie Crawford having a lot of the ball on the right wing did well delivering some great balls into the box. Rich Rosenthal having his last game for us for five weeks managed to drag his chubby behind into the box a few times to go out with a bang but he was as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Josh Wynne scored a great goal to make it 4-0 and two in two games with a 25-yarder outside of the foot effort.

The game petered out and became quite stale and a scrappy. A tap in from Fabio near the end made it 5-0 and to sum up the teams performance we conceded a sloppy goal at the end from lack of effort.

Even though we lacked in effort today, I'm pleased we got the job done and its three more points on the board towards the title.

"I know we can step it up when necessary as shown in recent games so I'm sure our team will be ready for Blizzard next week which was our worst game this season. That loss hurt us so revenge is the name of the game and we'll be coming out guns blazing ready to reverse the result they gave us!

Rich Rosenthal is a big loss to us in midfield not just in waste size but thankfully we have good depth in the squad to cope. A special mention from Lassman to the Bilbaum defender that was at his ankles all game."
