JC CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP ROUND THREE
LONDON MACCABI LIONS B 1 HENDON UNITED A 5 AET

Premier Division Hendon A were given an almighty scare at Rowley Lane before eventually over-powering second division Lions B in extra time.

It looked as though the Lions had done enough to claim a famous win following a strike from James Gold but the Hammers broke their resistance with an 89th minute equaliser through supersub Greg Corin.

They took the game away from Lions in extra time with strikes from Paul Bentley, Ben Kon (2) and Danny Kon keeping alive quadruple hopes.

Relieved Hammers boss David Garbacz told JC Sport: "This was squeaky bum time in its highest form. The danger signs had been there all game and once we failed to score early Lions confidence grew and grew.

"We conceded a soft goal and then had to throw everything at them in the last few minutes. I have to give my boys enormous credit for refusing to give up despite it genuinely looking like it wouldn't have been our day.

"The equaliser today could prove to be one of the biggest goals of the season as our confidence and momentum would have been shot to pieces had we lost today.

"I cannot give Lions B enough praise. They treated today's game like a cup final and it showed. They were well organised and defended brilliantly.

"We got out of jail but we are in the hat for the next round which ultimately is the most important thing."
