Connick steers BECC 1st home

Belmont and Edgware 1sts continued their unbeaten start to the Middlesex Sunday Cricket League season with a comprehensive eight-wicket victory away to Kensington & Chelsea.

K&C were also unbeaten coming into the game, and the home side won the toss and had no hesitation batting first on the hottest day of the year.

Jonathan Evans and Ashley Connick opened the bowling and removed the top order, sharing four wickets in the opening burst.

Richie Wienburg and Neil Myeroff took over to stifle the K&C batsmen in the middle order, Wienburg picking up 3-12 from his eight overs and Myeroff finishing with figures of 1-5 from his spell. Evans (3-28) and Connick (2-16) returned to try and clean up the tail, but failed to do so, leaving the job of taking the final wicket to Jack Malnick (1-6). Kensington & Chelsea were dismissed for 74 from 34.1 overs.

Chasing the small target, Connick and Daniel Abrahams started well, picking up boundaries freely and rotating the strike well. The pair put on 66 for the first wicket before Abrahams fell for 14. Simon Durban followed shortly afterwards.

Malnick joined his cousin and allowed BECC captain Connick to reach his half-century, hitting the final ball of the match for six to finish the game and finish unbeaten on 52 not out.
