articlemain

Alan Cohen achieved a unique double in winning the men's pairs at the Maccabi Lawn Bowls championships held at Bishopswood Bowls Club.

He won the trophy with eldest son James after beating Yitzhak Miller and Michael Daniels. It was the second time Alan has won this title, the first being with his youngest son Andrew five years ago.

Cohen was also crowned men's singles champion by beating Kevin Speck from Southend. He came from behind to win 21-20 in an exciting match.

In the ladies pairs, Iris Gladstone and Marion Green beat Bobby Gordon and Marienne Wainstein.

The mixed pairs trophy was retained by Ruth Harris and Frank Dryer for the third consecutive year. They beat Bobby and Harold Gordon in the final. The Mel Richfield Cup, held in memory of Maccabi's first bowls chairman, was won by David Lawrence who beat Bernard Davidson by one shot.
