Close but no cigar for Bilbaum

PETER MORRISON TROPHY (SOUTHERN SECTION) ROUND ONE
OAKWOOD 2 ATHLETIC BILBAUM 0

James Abrams and JC star man Dan Ash found the target as the mighty Oaks overcame a gritty Bilbaum at Parmiters.

The Baum faithful had travelled in their gaggles to watch the highly-anticipated first round tie against bookies favourites Oakwood.

Giant-killing had been on the lips of many around the club and as the weekend drew closer the atmosphere was near euphoric.

Sadly though the fairytale wasn't to be as Oakwood held their nerve and ran out 2-0 winners on a crisp clear Sunday morning.

Despite the loss, it was a performance to be proud of from the Baums, never once being intimidated by their high flying Division One opponents.

For the full 90 minutes, the team competed brilliantly across the park and even when Oakwood pressed, the Baum back line held resilient with Benjy Aarons-Richardson and Adam Landes having monster games in centre defence.

It was only a couple of momentary lapses in concentration that led to Oakwood's goals, but the Bilbaum boys continued to believe that there was something in the game for them all the way until the death.

Proud Bilbaum boss Mark Pasha told JC Sport: "It was a great game all round, played in really good spirit, and good luck to Oakwood for the rest of the tournament."
