Celtic in for Gershon

articlemain

Celtic are set to make an £800,000 offer for Standard Liege defender Rami Gershon.

The SPL leaders see the Israeli centre-back as an ideal replacement for Efi Ambrose, signed from Ashdod last summer, who looks set to join Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations.

Gershon’s agent Dudu Dahan declined to comment on the Celtic link, but confirmed the Israeli is about to leave Liege. "Gershon has offers from top European teams and we will know where he is going in the next few days," he said.

"When a club like Celtic asks you to come, you get on a plane and come."

Gershon, 24, joined Liege from Ironi Rishon Lezion in 2009 and is under contract until the summer of 2014. He had a successful year on loan to Belgian first division outfit Kortrijk last season.

After arriving in Glasgow this week, Gershon said: I am very excited to have the opportunity to play for Celtic."

Meanwhile, Yossi Benayoun has returned to Chelsea after his loan spell at West Ham came to an end.

Israeli international midfielder Eran Zehavi has agreed a move from Serie A outfit Palermo to Ligat Ha’Al leaders Maccabi Tel Aviv. Zehavi joined the Italians in 2011 from Hapoel Tel Aviv and made 43 appearances.

Robert Earnshaw has returned to Cardiff City following a loan spell at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The Welsh striker tweeted: "I've met some good people at made some great friends since I came to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

"But the loan to Maccabi is over now, but I go with a good spirit and happy to leave with the club at the top."
