The Israeli forward, 29, is well aware that he will spend most of his time on the bench at what many consider the best NBA team of all time, but he insists he can still help the team remain champions.

“It will be an opportunity to learn from coach Steve Kerr and the players here,” said Casspi.

“I could have earned more elsewhere but I want to grow as a player and take my game to a new level. I believe I can also contribute to the team.”

Now in his ninth NBA season, Casspi looks set to reach the playoffs for the first time.

Much of pre-season has been dominated by President Trump’s decision not to invite the team to the traditional White House champions reception.  Casspi said: “What Trump’s creating is a divide between the people.”
