articlemain

Cardiff Maccabi returned to Sunday action with an impressive 34-run win over Pontllanfraith.

Having not played a full 40-over game on a Sunday for a number of years, Maccabi produced an impressive showing to defeat their hosts thanks to some impressive batting from Gary Israel.

Israel hit 40 and Adam Gordon reached 30 as the Cardiff Midweek Cricket League side recorded 187 all-out in 39.4 overs.

The bowling attack was led by evergreen 63-year-old Martin Joseph, who took two wickets in an unbroken eight over spell.

Mike Caplan and Steve Rollnick also got on in the act by taking a couple of wickets apiece to wrap up a welcome win.

Batsman Gordon said: "This event was new in that the team played a full day on a Sunday for the first time in ages.

"Our plans for the future? To keep on going. We're not going to get carried away."
