Dan Kristall described two-goal hero Sam Cantor as the best player in the MGBSFL after he propelled Oakwood to third in the Premier Division as they inflicted a first defeat of the season to Brady Maccabi.

The league's game of the weekend saw the Oakwood defence nullify the threat of Brady goal machine Reiss Mogilner, but it was Cantor who took centre stage, with his double ensuring Oakwood bounced back from their Cyril Anekstein Cup exit at the hands of Camden Park.

Brady spurned a golden opportunity in the first minute and they were made to pay by the rampaging Cantor - the game's star performer.

Oaks joint-manager Dan Kristall told JC Sport: "This was a big win after last week's cup disappointment. We needed this win to get our season moving again and we are now well placed in the league to challenge.

"After a slow start and escaping Brady's best chance of the match which arrived in the first minute, I felt we passed a very tough test. I am sure they will take points off some good sides this season.

"Once again, our squad was tested to its maximum but we dug in deep and picked up the points. We had more going forward today but had to make several changes to our defence. I must say Max Clynes who came in for Alex Lee was outstanding, as was Ilan Scorah helping out at left back. We rarely looked in any danger.

"But when Sam (Cantor) plays like that, he is unplayable. There is nobody in the division who can get close to matching him for ability. He was by far the best player on the pitch and deserved his two goals. His movement and the way he brings others into play, gives us another dimension.

"I felt as a team we controlled the game and played some nice stuff. We will only get better in the coming weeks."

Brady joint-manager Josh Dagul insists there were positives to take away from the game. "It was a great test for us to see where we are compared to one of the league heavyweights and we were pleased to see us compete," he told JC Sport.

"They were the better team but we managed to keep them quiet for the majority of the game.

"Unfortunately, they were clinical when it mattered, scoring two of their very few chances. So there were plenty of positives and some lessons learnt to take forward to another tough challenge next week against Redbridge."
