Brilliant Brickman inspires LMV 2nds

articlemain

A superb spell of bowling from Josh Brickman inspired London Maccabi Vale 2nd to a three-wicket win over Highgate Irregulars in a friendly match.

On a wicket and outfield that could have benefited from an extra mow, Vale skipper Nigel Rothband won the toss and offered Highgate first use of the facilities.

An outstanding opening spell from Jonathan Lederman left him with the unusual figures of 5-5-0-0. A combination of excellent bowling, good field placing and excellent fielding kept the runs down. The highlight was a diving catch, to remove one of the openers, from young debutant Alexander Goodwin.

Lederman's opening partner, Jonathan Freedman bowled 11.5-5-19-3. There was great support from Josh Henry 1-26, Jeff Permutt 1-33, Jonathan Cantor and young Goodwin.

However, the real star was Josh Brickman, who bowled an excellent line and length throughout his nine- over spell and was rewarded with the outstanding figures of 5-18 from his nine overs.

With such tight bowling and the slow outfield, Highgate struggled to reach 137 all out.

In reply, Vale lost Jeremy Harris and Jonathan Cantor early. Rothband and Alex Hafner steadied the ship and from then on the result was never in doubt.

Rothband top-scored with 27, and there were important contributions in the middle order from Permutt, Ben Lederman and Freedman.

It was left to Jonathan Lederman to hit the winning runs and make it three wins in three games for Vale seconds.
