Brand leads LM Vale to victory

articlemain

A century from Adam Brand helped London Maccabi Vale 1st register a 17-run win over Middlesex Tamils in Middlesex Sunday League Division One.

Captain Brand decided to bat first on a cold and damp day at Rowley Lane.

Openers Martin Shultz and Joseph Greenwall-Cohen put together a solid opening stand. Shultz went on to complete a half century, and together with Brand, who scored 112 in quick time including a huge six which nearly hit the G3 pitch, they moved the score on.

Haffner joined Brand and scored a very useful 48. The LMV total was boosted at the end by young Under 17 debutant Jonathan Gould who finished unbeaten on 16 in an impressive 281 off.

Dan Cohen and Andrew Greenwall Cohen bowled without luck in horrible fielding conditions at the start of the MTSCC reply. Both found the edge of the bat on numerous occasions with the ball flying through gulley.

The first breakthrough came in the ninth over with the score on 48. There then followed a stand by two very good players and with the score at 160 -1 off 24 overs, LMV were staring at an unthinkable defeat.

A fantastic direct hit from young Gould changed the game. This was followed by a well-rehearsed long hop and a catch in the deep by Cohen of Joseph Greenwall-Cohen as LMV hauled themeselves back into the game. Some tidy bowling from the ageless Andy Landesberg and some more smart fielding from LMV saw more wickets tumble and despite a flurry of late runs they ended up victorious in the gloom and rain of a dark.
