Bowlers put MAL in a spin

articlemain

Spin twins Simon Cohen and Grant Reingold inspired London Maccabi Vale to a 39-run victory over MAL in Division One of the Middlesex Sunday League.

Earlier, Danny Caro hit an unbeaten 93 off 106-balls as LMV posted 196-3.

Joe Williams, who has recently been called up to the Team GB Maccabiah squad, and Caro put on 58 in 15 overs for the first wicket. Williams went for 28, which included a big six over square leg.

Jonny Gould joined Caro at the crease and they added 81 for the second wicket with an excellent partnership taking the score to 139 before Gould departed.

Josh Berke caught the eye with the ball for MAL, while Yoav Lebens, Chris Tomasewski, Ami Wynbourne and Michael Klinger also produced tidy spells.

Caro was striking the ball well in an innings that featured 13 boundaries. He was joined at the crease by LMV captain Neil Lederman, with a further 22 runs coming from the next two overs.

Jonathan Galloway added some useful runs and it was left to Reingold to hit the final ball of the innings for four as LMV fell just short of the 200 mark.

The MAL reply got off to a flying start, with Russell Corin striking some powerful blows. He departed for a well-made 29 which brought the powerful Tomasewski to the crease with the match evenly-balanced.

Reingold and Cohen, who have both been selected for the GB Junior Maccabiah squad, gradually took the game away from MAL, with some quality spin bowling.

Cohen’s arm-ball accounted for the key wicket of Tomasewski, while the ever-dangerous Lebens played a loose shot off Reingold, with Galloway showing a safe pair of hands in the covers.

Avi Nejad and Ami Wynbourne were out for ducks, but Berke continued to take the game to LMV with an unbeaten 36.

But wickets continued to tumble around MAL’s star performer, with the lower order having no answer to the flight and guile of Cohen and Reingold. And with Gould also picking up a wicket as MAL were dismissed for 157 off 38 overs.
