articlemain

James Bongart maintained top form with gold at the British Athletics League meeting in Gateshead.

Having recently taken the Essex under-20 title, Bongart, 17, showed that he is one of the country’s top young field event athletes with a personal best throw of 54.15m in the javelin.

The performance saw the Woodford Green and Essex competitor climb to 15th in the UK under-20 rankings.

Richard Goodman was a clear victor in the Ickenham 5 Mile Race, recording 24:50, six seconds short of the record for the fast, flat course.

Ellie Edwards continued her fine run of form with a double victory over 100m and 200m in the UK Youth Development League in Stretford. Her times of 12.8 and 25.9 were both close to her best.

Roger Bruck, 74, took gold in the high jump (1.20m) and long jump (3.52m) events at the Southern Counties Veterans Championships M70 Division in Lee Valley.
