Bloom: We're ready for Liverpool

Brighton chairman Tony Bloom is relishing next week's visit of Liverpool to the Amex Stadium.

With the team flying high at the top of the Championship, Bloom believes that these are exciting times for the Seagulls ahead of the big Carling Cup clash.

"I couldn't be happier at the moment," said Bloom. "The team has settled into the division and is doing very well.

"We kept the majority of our players who took us up from League 1 last season and added a few.

"I have a very good group of players and a fantastic manager in Gus Poyet."

A sell-out crowd will greet Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool on Wednesday.

Bloom said: "I expect Liverpool to bring a full-strength team. We've got a fairly good record against them and it will be really exciting for everyone involved.

"They are still one of the biggest teams around with so much history.

"There is no pressure on us and given that they are not in Europe this season, it'll be an important game for them.

"Part of me is looking forward to seeing Luis Suarez. He's absolute quality. Saying that, I'd rather see him on the bench. If we can keep him quiet I believe we have a chance.

"It will also be interesting to see a player of the calibre of Steven Gerrard."

Wednesday's clash will follow a meeting with Leicester City, managed by Sven-Goran Eriksson, the former England manager. Brighton go into the match without having conceded a goal in the last 270 minutes.

Bloom said: "Leicester have bought well but we're going there with a lot of confidence. The keeper and back four are very settled and genuinely, we don't look like conceding. The players are very single-minded and focused.

"We've got lots of big games coming up. The matches against Liverpool and Leeds are both live, followed by the derby against Crystal Palace. It's going to be a very busy few days."
