Bernstein backs Terry for England captaincy

articlemain

David Bernstein, chairman of the FA, has thrown his support behind the decision to restore John Terry as captain of England.

Terry was dropped from the role amid allegations over his private life but Bernstein has backed Fabio Capello’s decision to give the Chelsea defender a second chance.

Bernstein said: “Fabio came to see me about this a couple of weeks back.

"I told him that if he was absolutely sure that John was the right man for the job then I would back him 100 per cent.”

Bernstein officially took over the role as FA chief in January. He said: “Since I became chairman I have made it clear that the England team is a matter for the England manager and the decision on who should be captain is absolutely a decision for him."
