Yossi Benayoun has hit back at Chelsea fans who branded him a traitor following Arsenal’s thrilling 5-3 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Chelsea midfielder was unable to play in the match due to an agreement between the teams after he was loaned to the Gunners during the transfer window.

Benayoun, 31, infuriated Chelsea fans when he tweeted: “What a great win today. Well done guys.”

Following his posting, irate Chelsea fans threw a barrage of abuse towards the Israel captain.

One Chelsea fan wrote: ‘Yossi benayoun you are a judas.'

Another said: 'I have just searched the meaning of traitor in my dictionary... Do you know what it means? BENAYOUN.'

The player later tried to clarify his comments. He tweeted: ‘Shame that some of the Chelsea fans here take my last tweet in a wrong way.

“It’s obvious I would say well done to my team mates. This is what’s sports is all about.”
