Ben shows his Sheffield steel

Ben Sahar has
returned to Chelsea after a successful 10-week spell with Sheffield Wednesday in which he helped the Owls avoid relegation.

The Israeli scored his third goal for the club in a 4-1 victory over Norwich City which guaranteed Championship football next season.

The 36,208 crowd at Hillsborough went wild as Sahar slotted home the second goal to put Wednesday ahead after they had fallen a goal behind. “I really enjoyed my time at Wednesday,” said Sahar. “It was a great experience and I’m really grateful to the manager for giving me so much time in the first team.”

Still only 18, Sahar desperately needed the confidence boost that his time in Sheffield has given him after being unable to command a first team place whilst on loan at QPR in the first half of the season.

He also failed to make the Chelsea first team in January even though the Blues had most of their strikers injured or on duty at the African Cup of Nations.

“I’m back at Chelsea now and we will sit down next week and discuss my future,” he said. “I’ll make the decision which is best for my future. I’m aware of interest from Premier League clubs and another one overseas.”

JC Sport has learned that Chelsea still see a future for Sahar at Stamford Bridge but may send him on loan again next season with FA Cup finalists Portsmouth among the clubs interested.
