Belmont & Edgware claim sixth win of season

articlemain

Belmont & Edgware CC registered their sixth victory of the season after beating Southgate by 7 wickets.

BECC won the toss and decided to bowl first. Southgate were under pressure from ball one due to some inspired bowling and fielding.

Greg Mayer and Adam Jacobs opened up for BECC, and struck early. Mayer picked up the first wicket LBW before Jacobs claimed the next two clean bowled.

BECC captain Ryan Monk then took Jacobs off to save him for the end, but he wasn't needed as Mayer finished his spell with another wicket, with Jason Mann taking a very hard chance at mid-off to give the youngest Mayer his second wicket.

Wickets kept tumbling, as star fielder Noam Attar, who was excellent all day, stopped a certain boundary and turned it into a run out with a brilliant piece of fielding. He followed this up with two wickets, including a stumping for Michael Blasebalk.

Mitchell Mayer also picked up two wickets, including a catch in the deep for his younger brother, Greg, to remove Southgate skipper Richard Mitchell as Southgate were dismissed for 76.

BECC reached the target with ease, with Adam Jacobs followed up with his sublime bowling spell with an unbeaten 36 to carry the side over the line. He was assisted by a useful 17 by Phil Mayer.

All in all, a great day for the BECC boys with another victory.
