Belgian fans hit by World Cup fever

articlemain

With the World Cup fast approaching, a global audience in the region of 3bn are expecting to tune in to watch their heroes play on the world stage.

Two men trying to capitalise on the Brazil showpiece are Daniel Tannenbaum and Roy Skop who last month launched a fan site for the Belgium World Cup football team.

"We met at a Chabad conference earlier this year," explains Daniel. "We started talking about Belgium's national side and with players like Hazard, Lukaku, Kompany, Vertonghen and Courtois and how they have suddenly emerged as a force in international football.

"I used to be involved with one of Manchester City's top fan sites and it was set up just as City were getting big. I saw this as another gap in the market.

"With my background in web design and internet marketing, I wanted to launch the first Belgium fan site in English offering news, previews and great analysis.”

The atmosphere in Belgium is amazing at the moment. Everyone is excited about this team.

Born in Antwerp, Roy is currently studying at the University of Manchester. He said: "The atmosphere in Belgium is amazing at the moment. Everyone is excited about this team. And with so many players from the Premiership, I am sure that Belgium will be everyone’s second favourite team this summer.

"We created the site geared towards Euro 2016 because we believe that the World Cup will be a good warm-up for Belgium after not qualifying since 2002, but with some more experience, the Euro 2016 competition could be a very realistic goal.

"We've created some great content about the players and the World Cup. After barely being live for a month, we have received nearly 3,000 Twitter followers with traffic around 750 visits a day, with more than 2,000 visitors the day that Januzaj pledged his faith to Belgium.

"We're very excited about the new few weeks."
