Bain appointed CEO at Maccabi Tel Aviv

articlemain

Maccabi Tel Aviv have appointed Martin Bain as CEO.

The former Glasgow Rangers CEO was a controversial figure who was suspended and fired by the Scottish club in 2011 for opposing the sale of Rangers to Craig Whyte.

History soon vindicated Bain's hostility to Whyte after the new owner led the club into liquidation in 2012.

Bain, 49, replaces Jack Angelides who has become PAOK Salonika CEO.

Bain said: "Mitch Goldhar is a very ambitious and persuasive man. He has huge plans for this club and I felt it was an offer I could not refuse.

"I believe I am the right fit for what he wants to do in terms of his vision to build a European Club model, training academy and investing in building the club under Jordi Cruyff, the club’s director of football and our coach Pako Aysteran.

"I came to Israel three times with Rangers to play Betar Jerusalem, Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Tel Aviv. I very much enjoyed the people and the football and the Tel Aviv experience. I'm happy to be here with my wife."
